A New Approach to Curriculum Development

The Geriatrics Curriculum at Georgetown is a vertically integrated curriculum that aims to provide all Georgetown medical students with the foundation for competent, compassionate care of older patients, including attitudes, basic scientific knowledge, and clinical knowledge. Spanning all four years of undergraduate medical school, each student will have exposure to geriatric care as well as clinical research. Through exposure to expert clinicians and investigators, all students at Georgetown will gain an appreciation for the importance of the field, and the satisfaction in its proper practice. Through participation in geriatric care in a range of inpatient, outpatient, home-based and long-term care settings, students will adopt appropriate attitudes toward care of the elderly. Those who consider a career in geriatrics will have outstanding opportunities to experience research and clinical care in depth.
